Ao Dai festival marks 60th anniversary of Hanoi’s liberation

A festival featuring 250 Ao dai (Vietnamese traditional dresses) designed by well-known designers will be held in Hanoi in October.

The event is one of activities celebrating the 60th anniversary of capital's liberation (October 10-1954).

The Ao dai festival titled Colors of Hanoi and a concert themed Ha Noi, Niem Tin va Hy Vong (Ha Noi, Belief and Hope) will take place at Cach Mang Thang Tam (the August Revolutionary) Square and at King Ly Thai To Munument in Van Mieu (Temple of Literature) on October 10.



The event will be broadcast live by Vietnam Television.

Fireworks display to mark Hanoi’s 60th Liberation Day

The People’s Committee of Ha Noi has approved 15-minute firework displays at 30 venues on October 10 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the capital’s Liberation Day.

As scheduled, high range firework shows, starting from 9pm, will be conducted at five places, including Hoan Kiem lake (Sword Lake), Thong Nhat park in Hai Ba Trung district, West lake in Tay Ho district, Van Quan lake in Ha Dong district, and My Dinh national stadium.

Military Parade to celebrate the National Reunification Day

Various activities will take place on April 29-30 to mark the 40th anniversary of Southern Liberation and National Reunification Day in Hanoi and HCM City (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2015).
The programme will span two days.

Dragon dance festival to celebrate Ha Noi’s liberation

Ha Noi will hold the fourth dragon dance festival this Saturday, as part of a series of cultural activities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the city’s liberation on October 10.
The Ha Noi Dragon Dance Festival 2014 will take place from 1.30pm to 18.30pm at the King Ly Thai To Park , opposite to the Hoan Kiem Lake (Returned Sword Lake).

Northern, central Vietnam melt and wilt in extreme heat

Northern Vietnam is going through the hottest summer since 2009 while the central region is drying up in the worst heat ever, according to experts who blame the scorcher on El Nino and climate change.
The temperature hit 41.5 degrees Celsius, or 106.7 degrees Fahrenheit, in some central provinces, local media reported. The heat in Ha Tinh Province even melted a newly fixed road. Some travelers had their tires and shoes caught in the sticky asphalt Friday afternoon. The temperature in Hanoi surged to 40 degrees during the day.

By using the modern flycam technology, the architects of a group from Ashui.com has brought to the community a special gift on Hanoi’s 60th liberation anniversary.

That is a project called “Hanoi – View from the air” which aims to bring a fresh look of Hanoi and send a message of love and responsibility for Hanoi to the public.

Vietnam launches hotline to handle questions, complaints from tourists

Tourists who are lost in Vietnam or frustrated with a poor service can now call a new travel hotline operated by state-owned telecom giant VNPT.
The service, at (08) 1087, was launched on Wednesday, according to a post on the government website.
Tourists calling to the number will receive information of popular destinations, traditions and ongoing events across the country. They will also be connected to travel agents if they want to book tickets for a tour or program.
