Have you ever gone on a tour in the pouring rain, wearing your worn – out raincoat, walking along Sword Lake, trying in vain to catch a taxi yet joking about it all at the same time? I have, and let me tell you, it was awesome!
We were supposed to start our tour at 11 am that day, but due to the heavy and persistent rain, we decided to phone our guests and ask if they want to delay it until later. I mentioned the rain, but Mrs. Carol – the one who booked the tour – still expressed their wish to walk around and experience something local and also preferred to start the tour at 11 am. “How can we say no to them?” – we told ourselves and then rushed to the bus station , eager to experience the “ rainy tour”.
At first I thought my guests (2 couples from Australia) are British as Carol’s voice is so sweet and her accent through the phone was much like British. They were all at their 60s and we just wondered how they could be so adorable, friendly, funny and enthusiastic at that age. The two husbands, Terry and Barry looked like brothers in their identical blue raincoats, which is cute and funny at the same time. We started the tour with a short walk along the lake, talking about each other and laughing so hard when we saw some topless men running by. So great to see that these old people were really enjoying themselves, with us, in their colorful raincoats and such heavy rain!
My guests did really care about what we said and things about Vietnam. Marry and Carol watched all videos about Vietnamese woman in the Woman Museum and asked us a lot about women’s life in Vietnam. As for the husbands, they cared more about the traffic and raised questions about impatient commuters in Vietnam beeping horns all the time. We felt so helpful sharing anything we know with these people \m/
Well, one more wonderful thing, I experienced it all with Kattun – my buddy, classmate, housemate and also… trouble – mate. It is so good to have someone close experience interesting things with you!
